Gerasimos Stanitsas graduated from the University of Athens Experimental School in 1977 and entered the Chemical Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens. After acquiring his degree and registering with the Technical Chamber of Greece, he moved to Canada and took an MASc in Chemical Engineering, from Waterloo University, Ontario.
During his two year stay in Canada he worked, as part of his postgraduate programme, on various research and educational projects. On his return to Greece, he did his military service in a special unit of the armed forces.
He began his professional career in IT companies, until joining EKO SA in 1989 and holding a number of executive roles in that company. In 2003, he moved to the parent company Hellenic Petroleum SA, where he is still employed.
His 25-year career in the Hellenic Petroleum Group has brought him into contact with many managing roles, including production, marketing, international activities, development of sales networks and human resources. He is currently Group Communications Director. He has attended numerous conferences, published papers on a variety of specialist subjects, and is heavily committed to a range of volunteer activities.
