Spiros Fotinos has been working in the pharmaceutical sector for forty years, having studied Pharmacy at the University of Athens, and Chemistry at the University of Thessaloniki.
He then pursued more specialized studies, mainly in the USA, concentrating on new technologies in Drug Delivery Systems.
He began his career as a pharmacist with the company Minerva Pharmaceuticals SA, and then joined Lavipharm, where he still runs the Group’s R&D Division.
He has been involved in many areas in the Lavipharm Group, including:
- Completion of construction and commissioning of Lavipharm’s production unit in his role as a Technical Director.
- Responsible for development and production of a wide range of pharmaceuticals.
As founder and head of Group Research, Development and Innovation, he focused on a number of areas, such as Drug Delivery Systems including thin-film transdermal technologies, osmotic delivery and other controlled-release internal delivery systems, topical systems etc., OTC, skin cosmetics, functional foods and special-purpose diet supplements.
He is the holder of a significant number of international patents.
He is also a member of many scientific societies: Society of Greek Chemists, Controlled Release Society, New York Academy of Sciences, Member American Association for the Advancement of Science, Member of AAPS.
